As Mor Dayan\u0131\u015fma, in the wake of the Mara\u015f-centered earthquake on the\nmorning of February 6, we expanded our solidarity network with thousands of\nwomen from all over the country and the world who had earthquake\nexperience, who saw how great the destruction was and did whatever they\ncould, who grew solidarity in their neighborhood, workplace, circle of friends,\nwho worked in humanitarian aid and disaster crisis management, and who\nvolunteered in many of our activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We know that the Mara\u015f earthquake, which affected 10 provinces and millions\nof lives, deserves an in-depth discussion of many issues\u2014from pre-disaster\nprecautions to environmental and urban planning policies, from the use of\npublic resources to local government strategies. Although various studies and\nreports to date have provided data on the lack of preventive measures despite\nTurkey, being located in a seismic zone, the inefficient use of public resources,\nand the flawed practices during acute phases of disaster, we also know that\nany efforts made without considering gender inequality are incomplete and\nrisk reproducing this inequality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As women who have witnessed the inequality produced by gender-blind\npolicies during past earthquakes in G\u00f6lc\u00fck, Elaz\u0131\u011f, Van, and \u0130zmir, we have\nonce again, painfully seen that the patriarchal order renders women invisible\nor secondary in disaster situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This state of \u201cconscious ignorance\u201d, rooted in gender inequality, painfully\nrevealed the need to talk about how and where women survivors were found\nunder the rubble, how they should or should not be approached during initial\nrescue, and how basic humanitarian needs are often reduced to the\ndistribution of sanitary pads for women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As Mor Dayan\u0131\u015fma, we have long experienced that it is not only through\ndiscussion but also through continuous action guided by feminist policies,\nand the persistent mobility of organized women's struggle at the local level,\nthat gender inequality can be challenged, and we have achieved tangible\ngains. The feminist policies we practiced after the \u0130zmir and Van earthquakes\nin the pre-, during, and post-disaster phases, have served as a guide in our\nsolidarity with survivors of the Mara\u015f earthquake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a women's association that has experience in the field, we have seen that\ngender inequality and male-dominated policies that deepen inequality make\nwomen more vulnerable in disaster situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We have carried out the steps\nof survival, recovery, solidarity, empowerment, and organization together with\nthe political feminist subjectivation process of women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
